Am I a candidate for participating in sleep studies?

Here at Dr. Avi Ishaaya Centers, we see patients who suffer from a variety of underlying causes that plague their sleep and therefore, their overall quality of life. If you struggle with falling asleep, staying asleep, night terrors or paralysis, or even just inexplicable exhaustion or low energy throughout the day, you may be interested in pursuing a sleep study to discover the source of your issue. Our overnight lab is specifically designed to be comfortable, relaxing, and conducive to providing you with a natural night's sleep, much more like a hotel than a laboratory. Once we arrive at a diagnosis, our expert team of practitioners is trained in guiding our Los Angeles, CA patients towards the appropriate care, treatment, and specialists for addressing their specific lifestyle and diagnosis.

At-Home Sleep study

We have our award-winning, at-home sleep apnea test you can use in the comfort of your own bed. Of course, we will explain how to use the technology to perform your test, and we will be available to answer any questions you may have to make sure it is set up correctly. If you qualify, you will receive a prescription from Dr. Ishaaya after a consultation for sleep apnea. The sleep apnea consultation can also be performed through our telemedicine process. Alternatively, you can also just make an appointment to meet with Dr. Ishaaya in person at our office in Los Angeles, CA.

Our at-home sleep test is as reliable as an in-lab sleep test, and it is covered by most insurance companies including Medicare. Because of certain medical conditions, an overnight, in-lab sleep test may be more appropriate for some patients.

Our Sleep Lab

In our full-service state-of-the-art sleep lab, we facilitate both attended and unattended sleep and titration studies for our patients with sleep disturbances. Once studies are complete, Dr. Ishaaya will interpret the results. If you need to purchase sleep therapy devices, you can test out and obtain treatment devices and supplies from us.

OUR SLEEP TESTS

To facilitate your needs and finding the correct diagnosis, we offer overnight and daytime sleep studies to evaluate you.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
If you are having trouble with daytime sleepiness, we can perform the MSLT to assess you.  In this test, we document how fast you fall asleep and when you enter the REM sleep stage. This test is often recommended to patients who show signs of being narcoleptic.

Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT)
Like the MSLT, the MWT is also a daytime study we use to document and evaluate daytime sleepiness, level of alertness, and how long you are able to stay awake throughout the study period.

Polysomnogram (PSG)
The PSG is an overnight sleep study that measures your blood oxygen levels, brain waves, heart rate, heart rhythm, breathing patterns, physical movements, and disruptive behaviors.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Titration Study
For patients with obstructive sleep apnea, we offer an overnight CPAP sleep study before sending you home to a machine. We will test the delivery of the singular pressure level of the CPAP to determine what is best for your sleep apnea treatment. Dr. Ishaaya also offers an overnight split study, which involves both polysomnogram and CPAP titration.

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) Titration Study
Because some patients respond better to differing pressure strengths throughout the sleep cycle, we offer overnight BiPAP titration studies. The BiPap device's pressure can be set for different breathing patterns.

What Should I Expect Following A Sleep Study?

Regardless of whether you choose to undergo an in-lab or at-home sleep study, we will contact you to review the results. It may take about 1 – 2 weeks for your results to be available. If you want a copy of the results, the team at Dr. Avi Ishaaya Centers can provide our report to you. Then, we will offer our diagnoses and recommendations for further treatment or evaluation. Possible treatments may include lifestyle changes, prescription of a CPAP machine, or surgery to alleviate a problem causing sleep issues or disturbances.
